Rare is the destination that offers so many adventures, while remaining so utterly unspoiled and undeveloped. As the least inhabited Central American country, Belize is a combination of the rarest wildlife of Central America, the finest Caribbean beaches, and the most flamboyant marine life in the western hemisphere; and boasts the second largest barrier reef in the world!

Belize’s relatively undiscovered status has been one of the country’s most powerful attractants over the centuries and the inhabitants from the time of its modern history have liked it just that way. The area was the center of the vast Mayan Civilization founded about 2,000 B.C. Dozens of pyramids and ruins – most not yet excavated – can be found throughout the country once known as British Honduras.

With an average yearly temperature of 84° F, it’s always warm and comfortable. The climate is pretty perfect and Belize is the perfect location for a quick 4th of July escape, and that is just what we will do: ESCAPE!

July 2nd, Day 1: Arrive into the Belize International Airport. We transfer overland through the Capital, Belmopan, along the beautiful Hummingbird route to our jungle resort. Bocawina Rainforest Resort is a true ‘off the grid’ eco-resort in the middle of Mayflower Bocawina National Park. The lodge is powered by an array of solar panels and a seasonal small-scale hydroelectric generating station. Wi-Fi is available in the restaurant so you can share daily experiences with friends from this remote rainforest setting. Upon arrival, after a special orientation, you will have time to settle into the lodge and learn about the experiences that lie ahead in the surrounding mountains and rainforest. After settling into our rooms we meet for a gathering hour in the onsite Wild Fig Restaurant and Bar, enjoy an introductory talk on Belize and then sit down for a welcome dinner together.

July 3rd, Day 2: Waking up to the sounds of the tropical jungle is a pure delight, with the chatter of parrots and parakeets flying overhead, the fresh morning air scented with tropical blossoms, and the expectation of an exciting adventure-filled day ahead. Coffee is on at 6 am and a guide is available to lead an early morning, natural history, Mayan ruin and birding walk. After breakfast, you are free to fill the rest of your day as you choose. Take the day to experience zip lining through the jungle canopy, rappel down a 200 ft waterfall or simply take a relaxing swim in the rain forests’ fresh water pool.

July 4th, Day 3: After breakfast this morning, we load up and set course for the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. This area is recognized internationally as the world’s first jaguar preserve. It is also known for its nature trails and rich diversity of neotropical birds. The tracks of wildcats, tapir, deer, and other wildlife are often seen on hiking trails or along the bank of South Stann Creek. We will stop at the local chocolate makers and visit the Maya Center Women’s craft cooperative. Along the way we will enjoy a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we drive to the coast to board our boat to Tobacco Caye, a stones throw from one of the most beautiful reefs in the world. Settle in your beach cabana with your own balcony that extends over the water.

July 5th, Day 4: Enjoy breakfast at the lodge. Today is yours to enjoy the tropical paradise that surrounds you. Spend the whole day sipping cocktails on the beach and lounging in the sun, emerging yourself in the crystal-clear waters and tumbling surf to cool off. Our guide is available to take you out snorkeling or paddle boarding. One marine activity is included in the cost of your trip. This could be a snorkeling, paddle boarding or even fishing near the reef. Whatever you choose to do to fill your time, the peaceful sound of the nearby waves will help lull you to sleep at the end of your day in this tropical getaway. End your day with a traditional Belizean dinner at the lodge with the rest of the group.

July 6th, Day 5: Grab some breakfast in the morning. Today is a free day to enjoy the beach, lodge and island. You will have the opportunity once again to explore the surrounding water and beautiful reef with our local guide. Here you will see a wide range of ocean wildlife that makes this one of the best snorkeling destinations in Central America. This is the longest barrier reef in the western hemisphere. Here you could see manta rays, brightly colored shellfish, grouper, lobster, octopus and if you’re lucky, you may even see a whale shark. Enjoy your last evening with the group at the lodge for some delicious dinner made by one of our chefs who specialize in local cuisine.

July 7th, Day 6: Today is departure day. Enjoy breakfast at the lodge and dig your toes into the soft sand one last time before we take a boat ride to Dangria where you will board a flight to the Belize (BZE) airport for your connection home. Bring back the relaxing lifestyle and fond memories the wonderful country of Belize has to offer.
